How to Keep Your Car Windshield from Fogging Up

Fog on your car’s windshield is condensation caused by a difference in humidity and temperature near the glass. During the winter, the temperature inside your car is higher than outside, making your car's windshield foggy from within. In the summertime, windshields fog on the outside as warm air condenses when it touches the cool windshield of your car. Regardless of where the condensation occurs, it's suggested that you take preventive measures to keep your windshields from fogging up! Here are some tips to help you prevent fogged windshields.

1. Clean Your Windows

You can prevent automotive fog by wiping your car's windshield. Oil and dirt on the glass attract and maintain condensation. Therefore, use a window cleaner, a newspaper, or a paper towel to wipe down your windshield from both sides.

2. Apply an Anti-Fog Spray.

Anti-fogging sprays contain chemicals that resist water vapors from condensing. Remember to buy a spray designed to clean the glass' interior during the winters. If it's the summer, buy an anti-fogging spray that's meant for the exterior. Before applying the spray, ensure to clean your windows for the best results.

3. Home Remedies.

Some effective home remedies to prevent windshields from fogging up are:

· Shaving cream- spray some Barbasol shaving cream on a towel and wipe it on your windshield. Use another towel to wipe the glass clean.

· Potato- interestingly, sugars and starch in potatoes can repel fog. So, cut a potato in half, and wipe the exposed part on your windshield. Wipe the windshield clean with another towel.

4.   Turn Off the Recirculate Button

The recirculate button on your car’s console uses air inside the car to keep it cool or warm. It continuously recirculates the same air, effectively keeping your vehicle cool or warm. When you switch off this button, the car uses air from outside to keep the interior warm/cold. To prevent condensation during the winters, turn off the recirculate button to recirculate moisture and remove windshield fog.

5. Blast the Defroster to the Max

When everything else fails, turn up the defroster to full. The dry, warm air will instantly evaporate all moisture from inside, defogging your windshield. It's a temporary fix until you turn off the recirculate button and keep your windows clean using an anti-fogging spray.
